Commission a personal work of Japanese craftsmanship in a private Kamakura atelier with a three-generation history dating back to 1898. In Japan, a personal name seal (hanko) replaces a handwritten signature. Your host, an award-winning master engraver, introduces rare examples of seal art, historic tools, and the discipline behind his craft. Enjoy in-depth Japanese calligraphy and personally guided stone-seal carving. Create your own stone seal and complete a brushwork piece to serve as lasting mementos of your visit. The centerpiece is your own Kamakura-bori 'Tsukino' seal. Kamakura-bori is a carved and lacquered woodcraft practiced for some 800 years. Choose from existing carved handle designs; handle motifs cannot be custom-designed. One design is limited to just 36 seals annually. Your name is then entirely hand-engraved on the seal face by a skilled artisan. An elegant kimono-fabric seal case, a pouch for your stone seal, a signed certificate, a digital seal impression and a handwritten calligraphy model are included. The seal is completed in approximately one month. International shipping costs extra.
