Overview

Guided by a local sommelier you don't just taste, you learn by doing. You'll start with the basics for reading a wine properly then move to the heart of the workshop, which is food and wine pairing. You'll try the good pairings and the bad ones alike, so you grasp for yourself, concretely, why some combinations lift each other up while others fall flat. The workshop builds in stages, from goat versus cow to young cheese versus long-aged, then on to blue cheese. Along the way you'll explore France's terroirs, with the grape varieties, soils and microclimates all explained without the jargon. The whole tasting unfolds in a genuine Croix-Rousse wine cellar. A deep dive into gastronomic Lyon without ever leaving the neighbourhood.

Itinerary

Cave Tabareau is one of Lyon’s most authentic wine cellars, making it the ideal setting for this interactive food-and-wine pairing workshop. Without ever leaving the cellar, you’ll explore the local cuisine and terroir, glass by glass, cheese by cheese. This isn’t a passive tasting, you’ll actively learn how to taste, identify, and pair wines with local artisanal cheeses. Your sommelier will guide you through the surrounding wine regions, explaining grape varieties, wineries, soils, and microclimates in an accessible way free of jargon. You’ll first learn how to taste wine properly, then move on to pairings, both good and bad to gain a practical understanding of why certain combinations work and others don’t. The workshop progresses in phases, goat’s milk versus cow’s milk, young cheese versus aged cheese, and finally blue cheese. A deep dive into Lyon and its gastronomy, without ever setting foot outside.
