Overview

Enjoy the intimacy of your family and friends, up to 5 (maybe 6 - read further), on a private sightseeing tour of Juneau. See the Mendenhall Glacier from a lookout, DIPAC hatchery, Shrine of St Therese, and more! Wildlife include salmon, seals, eagles and maybe more. Ride in a luxury hybrid Toyota Grand Highlander, with mid-row captain seats and an expansive moonroof for spotting soaring eagles. Take comfort in a heated seat (if temps are cool), and charge your phone while relaxing in style. Guide is a local family man, who has lived in town for years. * Start times are 9 and 2 daily, but are flexible. * More people means more savings per person * If your group has six, I may take them, with no extra charge beyond five. I have six passenger seatbelts. Look at the photo of the third row of my SUV in the above collection - I can take six if three can fit there. If so, after you book, just let me know you have six. * Guaranteed to return you to your ship before its departure

    Itinerary

    1. 1

      Stop 1

      Pass by

Drive through Downtown Juneau. We pass historic buildings from the 1900's mining boom, including the oldest currently operating hotel in Alaska! We also pass the Alaska Capitol, the seat of state government, and the Governor’s Mansion.

    2. 2

      Dipac's Macaulay Salmon Hatchery

      35 min

You'll learn about the complete salmon life cycle. Inside the hatchery includes two touch pools, a cylindrical aquarium, and a gift shop. (Note: The outside salmon ladder opens June 21; wildlife like eagles, seals and sea lions can usually be spotted).

    3. 3

      Stop 3

      15 min

A great photo op of the Mendenhall Glacier, with a beautiful meadow of fireweed in the foreground! You will also learn about the recent yearly flooding of the Mendenhall River.

    4. 4

      Stop 4

      30 min

Whether you consider yourself religious or not, this sacred location offers stunning views of its well-kept grounds, as well as the surrounding mountains and ocean. Eagles and whales may be spotted, as well as spawning salmon (depending upon the month).

    5. 5

      Stop 5

      20 min

Beautiful vista of beach and mountain rage

    6. 6

      Stop 6

      15 min

A majestic, life-sized bronze whale statue stands as an artistic commemoration of over fifty years of Alaskan statehood. Panoramic views of the Gastineau Channel and Douglas Island. Photo opportunities abound.

    7. 7

      Stop 7

      10 min

This gorgeous lake has the stunning Mendenhall Towers mountain range as its backdrop, and you can catch a glimpse of the Mendenhall Glacier. Relative to an on-site photo taken a century ago, one can see how dramatically the glacier has changed over time.

      10 min

See Juneau landscapes from Douglas Island. Also see some of the ruins, like the pump house, of the Treadwell Mine, a gold mine which collapsed over one hundred years ago.
